What age is Wild Beginnings designed for?

Wild Beginnings is a gentle, child-led, and built for parents Nature Play Group for babies and toddlers 0 - 3 years old.

2

What happens during Nature Play Group?

No pressure, no structure, no overstimulation. It will just be you, your little one, and the freedom to explore a nature space however you like. Each week there will be new nature play stations set up for babies and toddlers to explore with confidence. You will also be surrounded by other like-minded families, and it will become a weekly rhythm of connection and community.

3

Can I bring an older sibling?

If you have an older sibling outside of the designated age-range, we’d recommend enrolling them in our Nature Explorers or a weekend skill-based workshop.

4

Is Nature Play Group Safe for babies?

Absolutely. Safety is always our top priority. Our on-site teams are CPR & First Aid certified, carry fully stocked first aid kits, and assess all play spaces before a program begins. Babies are never encouraged to interact with unsafe plants or materials, and caregivers are always within arms' reach.

5

What should I bring to Nature Play Group?

  • Blanket to sit on

  • Weather-appropriate layers (we love rain suits!)

  • Water

  • Expect to get a little messy!

6

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

We are a fully outdoor program — and rain is part of the fun! We only cancel for severe weather (like lightning, high winds, or unsafe flooding). Otherwise, we dress for the weather and embrace puddles, mud, and all.

If play group needs to be canceled, we will notify families by text and email at least 30 minutes prior to the session.

7

Do I have to be the parent to attend with my child?

Nope! Any trusted caregiver is welcome — moms, dads, grandparents, nannies, aunts, uncles — as long as they’re ready to explore, get a little messy, and be hands-on in nature alongside your child. There is no limit to the amount of caregivers that accompany the children to play group.

8

What kinds of things will my Gain in Wild Beginnings??

  • Early sensory exploration

  • Motor development through movement & nature materials

  • Social awareness by observing other children

  • Seasonal rhythms

  • Comfort and curiosity outdoors in all weather

  • Trust, connection, and attachment with their caregiver

We believe children belong outdoors — and their brains and bodies thrive in natural environments.

9

How is Wild Beginnings different from Nature Explorers?

Wild Beginnings is meant to be unstructured time outdoors to help build curious minds. Nature Explorers has more structured elements like circle time, a themed nature-activity, a nature hike, and songs. Wild Beginnings is a group for families who would like to explore at their own pace. Wild Beginnings is also an hour-long session, compared to the 75-minute Nature Explorers.

10

What makes Wild School different from other outdoor programs?

Wild School is 100% outdoors — rain or shine. Our programs are built around rhythm, play, and place-based learning. We combine forest school philosophy, coyote mentoring techniques, and early childhood education expertise.

Nature is the teacher.

Every session is grounded in seasonal change, child-led exploration, and real connection between caregivers, children, and the land.

11

What is a nature school?

Nature school (or forest school) is an educational approach that takes place entirely outdoors. Instead of traditional classrooms, children learn through direct interaction with nature — climbing logs, watching bugs, building forts, and playing with natural materials.

It’s child-led, play-based, and focuses on whole-child development: physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. Children build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong connection to the natural world.

12

How involved do I need to be as a caregiver?

You’re an essential part of the experience! We ask you to stay close to your child, observe, participate, and model curiosity.

You might join in the mud kitchen or simply be a calm presence as your child explores independently.

13

What if I miss a class or need to reschedule?

We offer flexible make-up opportunities when space allows at other locations during the same session. If the class is canceled due to weather, we follow our seasonal makeup and credit policy (outlined clearly before enrollment).
