Youth Bushcraft Workshops
Weekend Outdoor Skills Class
Offered Year-Round | 3-Hour Sessions
Our Youth Bushcraft Workshops are immersive, three-hour weekend sessions designed to build real outdoor skills, confidence, and awareness in children ages 6–12.
These workshops go beyond themed activities or surface-level nature play. Each session focuses on a core bushcraft skill rooted in human history and practical survival knowledge. Children work with real tools, real materials, and real responsibility in a structured, supportive environment.

Fire is one of humanity’s oldest and most powerful tools. In this workshop, children learn how to work with fire responsibly and intentionally. Students are introduced to fire safety, gathering and preparing natural materials, and the fundamentals of building and sustaining a fire that lasts.
This is not a novelty spark-and-go experience. It is grounded, practical, and skill-based. Through hands-on practice and games, children leave feeling capable, confident, and deeply connected to an ancient human skill—no shortcuts, lighter fluid, or gimmicks involved.

At The Wild School, we believe real responsibility builds real confidence. Knife skills are taught with respect, structure, and clear expectations.
Students learn proper knife handling, safety protocols, and basic first aid, along with age-appropriate carving techniques. Each child begins the knife certification process, allowing them to track skill development and earn increased responsibility over time.
Whether they leave with a simple wooden tool or a finely shaped toothpick, they leave with something more important: discipline, focus, and respect for a powerful tool.

Shelter is one of the core survival priorities. In this workshop, children explore both modern and improvised shelter-building techniques.

Why do animals seem to disappear right in front of us?
In this workshop, children learn the art of blending into the natural world. Through games focused on camouflage, stillness, awareness, and movement, students practice moving quietly, hiding effectively, and noticing what most people miss.
This class sharpens focus, patience, and sensory awareness while fostering a deeper connection to place—all through playful, embodied learning.
Animal Tracking
(Ages 7–13)
Dates: Saturday, April 18th
Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm CST
Price: $65
Location: The Woodlands Wild School Campus
Animal Tracking teaches children how to read the landscape like a story.
Students learn to identify tracks, trails, scat, and other animal signs while developing observation skills and attention to detail. The emphasis is on slowing down, noticing patterns, and asking better questions about the natural world.
Designed to run alongside an adult tracking workshop, this experience allows children and caregivers to learn simultaneously—each at their own level—creating a shared language of awareness and curiosity that extends far beyond the day.
