Baby & Toddler Classes (Ages 0-18 Months)

little sprouts

For Ages 0-18 months

Weekly Caregiver & Me Class | Runs Year-Round (May–May)

Little Sprouts is a gentle, sensory-rich outdoor class designed for babies and early walkers to experience nature alongside their caregiver — in a way that honors their development, curiosity, and natural play instincts.

In these early months of life, babies are naturally drawn to the world around them — they want to reach, mouth, push, pull, dump, climb, and explore. This class is designed to embrace and support these natural play schemas (how babies learn through movement and interaction) — while offering parents a framework to confidently explore nature together.

Every part of Little Sprouts is intentional — from the way we set up invitations to play, to the songs we sing, to the seasonal stories we share. It’s about building connection — to nature, to each other, and to your baby’s emerging sense of wonder.

What age is Little Sprouts designed for?

Little Sprouts is specifically created for babies from newborn to early walkers (roughly 0-18 months). Once your child is confidently walking and actively exploring on their own, our Nature Explorers class is the perfect next step!

2

What happens during a typical Little Sprouts class?

We follow a gentle, consistent rhythm to help babies feel safe and connected:

  • Blanket gathering time in nature

  • Welcome song with movement or finger play

  • Sensory invitations that challenge play schemas like dumping, filling, wrapping, transporting, or climbing

  • Guided nature walk or exploration

  • Nature story or seasonal song

  • Closing gratitude or gentle goodbye song

Every part of class supports your child’s development and connection to the natural world — while allowing them (and you!) to move at their own pace.

3

Can I bring an older sibling?

If you have an older sibling (walking/playing age), we’d recommend enrolling them in our Nature Explorers class so both children get an experience designed for their age & stage.

4

What if my baby naps, feeds, or needs to move around during class?

That’s exactly what this class is for! Babies are welcome to be fed, nap, crawl, wander, or simply observe. There is no expectation that your baby "participates" a certain way.

5

Are your outdoor classes safe for babies?

Absolutely. Safety is always our top priority. Our teachers are CPR & First Aid certified, carry fully stocked first aid kits, and assess all play spaces before class begins. Babies are never encouraged to interact with unsafe plants or materials, and caregivers are always within arms' reach.

6

What should I bring to Little Sprouts class?

  • Blanket to sit on

  • Baby carrier or stroller for nature walks

  • Weather-appropriate layers (we love rain suits!)

  • Water bottle for you & baby

  • Optional: toys or comfort items for your little one

  • Expect to get a little messy!

7

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

We are a fully outdoor program — and rain is part of the fun! We only cancel for severe weather (like lightning, high winds, or unsafe flooding). Otherwise, we dress for the weather and embrace puddles, mud, and all.

If class needs to be canceled, we will notify families by text and email at least 30 minutes prior to class.

8

Do I have to be the parent to attend with my child?

Nope! Any trusted caregiver is welcome — moms, dads, grandparents, nannies, aunts, uncles — as long as they’re ready to explore, get a little messy, and be hands-on in nature alongside your child. There is no limit to the amount of caregivers that accompany the children to class.

9

What kinds of things will my baby actually learn in Little Sprouts?

  • Early sensory exploration

  • Motor development through movement & nature materials

  • Social awareness by observing other children

  • Seasonal rhythms through songs & rituals

  • Comfort and curiosity outdoors in all weather

  • Trust, connection, and attachment with their caregiver

We believe babies belong outdoors — and their brains and bodies thrive in natural environments.

10

How is Little Sprouts different from other baby classes?

Most baby classes are inside, over-stimulating, or rigid. Little Sprouts is intentionally calm, outdoors, and baby-led.

We focus on:

  • Sensory play that honors play schemas

  • Building connection over "performance"

  • Letting babies engage with real-world, natural materials

  • Developing comfort with all kinds of outdoor environments

  • Supporting parents in slowing down, noticing, and connecting

It’s less about "doing an activity perfectly" and more about shared moments, simple beauty, and belonging outside.

11

What makes Wild School different from other outdoor programs?

Wild School is 100% outdoors — rain or shine. Our classes are built around rhythm, play, and place-based learning. We combine forest school philosophy, coyote mentoring techniques, and early childhood education expertise.

We don’t just “take the class outside.” Nature is the teacher.

Every class is grounded in seasonal change, child-led exploration, and real connection between caregivers, children, and the land.

12

What is a nature school?

Nature school (or forest school) is an educational approach that takes place entirely outdoors. Instead of traditional classrooms, children learn through direct interaction with nature — climbing logs, watching bugs, building forts, and playing with natural materials.

It’s child-led, play-based, and focuses on whole-child development: physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. Children build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong connection to the natural world.

13

How involved do I need to be as a caregiver?

You’re an essential part of the experience! In caregiver-inclusive classes, we ask you to stay close to your child, observe, participate, and model curiosity.

You might join in the mud kitchen, sing in circle time, or simply be a calm presence as your child explores independently. It’s okay if your child wanders or prefers to watch — there’s no wrong way to engage.

14

What if my child has a hard time participating or staying with the group?

Totally normal! These classes are built with toddlers and young children in mind. Kids will have moments of focus and moments of distraction — we welcome it all.

There are always multiple activities and a flexible rhythm so your child can flow in and out of engagement in a way that feels natural for them.

12

What if I miss a class or need to reschedule?

We offer flexible make-up opportunities when space allows at other locations during the same session. If the class is canceled due to weather, we follow our seasonal makeup and credit policy (outlined clearly before enrollment).
